Who We Are

Cici

Cici

I’m a creative middle schooler at Stanford OHS who loves studying, trying new cuisines and traveling! I’ve also been forced to hike in many places, but I’ve recently started to appreciate it.

Jing

I’m a peri menopausal, homeschooling mom with arthritis who wants to hike all over the world. Traveling gave me two gifts: the gratitude to be alive & the work-in-progress confidence to trust my body despite all its physical limitations.

I’m a physician by day and a full time driver when we travel. I’ve driven everywhere in the world- from Norway’s endless tunnels, bridges & roundabouts to New Zealand’s right hand drive roads. I also love trying all new cuisines.

Where Are We Now?

We just came from Norway and the Faroe Islands, where we went around the country for 27 and 6 days, respectively. We are currently in Iceland, moving to mainland Europe. We’d like to hear from you if you have tips and suggestions about the countries we have yet to visit. Hopefully, you also learn something from our adventures.

What Have We Learned?

We’ve been worldschooling since first grade and our purposeful wandering continues to teach us much needed lessons outside of our comfort zones.

  • People are more the same than different, despite our cultural and religious differences. We all need food, shelter, family, love and acceptance. We also need purpose & adventure in different shapes and forms.

  • We, as individuals, are really stronger than we sometimes think. Traveling, if you allow it, gently peels off your layers and reveals your strengths.

  • We should not take nature for granted because the earth is truly a magnificent planet & this is everyone’s home. It is both a privilege and responsibility to take care of it.

  • There are many ways to arrive at a destination. Some paths take time to teach you patience. Some require detours to teach you the enjoyable adventure in getting lost. Some are painful to teach you strength and self love. Your path from A to B is yours alone. Embrace it.

  • Walking amidst nature, away from all the technology, is the perfect meditation. It teaches the value of silence, of listening, of gratitude, especially during those times when you can’t even hear your own self with all the world’s noise.

Why Are We Doing This?

When we were full time homeschooling many years ago, we traveled a lot to learn about the world. We were fortunate to have the resources, time, and flexibility. A lot of families and friends were encouraging us to start blogging but we wanted to focus on our studies and we didn’t have the extra time. Fast forward to today, June 2022, Cici is now a full time middle schooler in Stanford OHS & we have some spare time in our hands. Planning vacations takes a lot of time and effort and not a lot of families have that luxury. We’d like to be able to help by showing our itineraries, if at the least to give you an idea of where to start and what you can do.
